Avery took the pen, smiled at Rob, and bit her lip, looking at the paper.  This was it.  One little signature, and everything in her past wouldn’t matter any more, because she’d be with Rob, forever, and together, they could handle anything.  She smiled as she signed her full name, her heart giving a little flutter as she set the pen down.

The servant stepped up, took the pen, signed under ‘Witness’, then nodded to the both of them.  “Congratulations!” then left.

Terran took the pen, signed it, then shrugged.  “That’s it,” he said.  “You are now married.  Congratulations,” he grinned.

Rob started laughing and picked Avery up into a hug, twirling her around.

“Oh my god!” Avery laughed, her arms going around his neck when Rob picked her up.  She realized she was crying a little, and felt really silly about it.  There hadn’t even been a ceremony.  No pretty words or anything.  But she was still just overcome with emotion.  “Oh my god!” she said again, burying her face against his neck.

Rob couldn’t stop laughing as he held her and stroked her hair.  “We did it, Avery!”  He shook his head, buried his face against her hair.  “We finally did it!”  He pulled back and cupped her face, kissing her several times in rapid succession.  “I love you so damned much.”

Avery smiled, kissing him back.  “I love you too,” she said.  “Oh my god.  I can’t believe we actually did it.”  She laughed.  “I didn’t think we’d ever get here.”

Terran nodded.  “After I sign it.  Do you mind if I have a servant witness it?”

Avery shook her head, looking at Rob and smiling. “I don’t mind, do you?” she asked him.

“Uhm, please.” Rob said, grinning.

Terran chuckled, and stepped over to the door, poking his head out.  “Ah, could you come in for a moment?”

Terran stepped back, letting one of the servants enter.  “Yes, Robert and Avery, here, will need you to witness the marriage license after they sign it.”

“Very good, sir!” the servant said.

Terran pushed the marriage license across the desk.  Rob picked up a pen, scrawled his name, then handed the pen to Avery.

Avery just laughed, she couldn’t help it.  She was happy, and in a state of shock that this was actually happening, and it just all spilled out into her laughter.  “Hi,” she said to Terran, not sure if she’d ever met him before now.  “What he said.”

Terran grinned.  “Hello, Robert.”  He nodded to Avery.  “Miss Riften.”

He moved over to a large filing cabinet in the corner.  “So I assume, as you said Robert, you want this now, and dealing with a ceremony and reception at a later date?”

Rob nodded.  “Yessir,” he said, grinning.

Terran reached into one of the drawers, pulled out a marriage license.  “Do not ask how or why I have these; I shall assure you, however, that they are legal.”

Rob laughed.  “So.  What do we do?”

“Well, I’ll require your signatures, and that’s it.”

Rob blinked.  “That’s … it?”

Terran nodded and grinned.  “Yes.”

“Really?” Avery said, blinking a bit.  “We just … sign this and that’s it?  We’ll be married?”

Terran nodded.  “After I sign it.  Do you mind if I have a servant witness it?”

“Me too!” she said, laughing as she was pulled down the hall when he started jogging.  “Let’s do this thing.”

They finally arrived at Terran’s study, and Rob knock-knock-knocked on the door.  After a moment, the door opened.  “Yes?” Terran asked, smiling a bit.

“We need to get married.  Like.  Now?” Rob said.

Terran laughed.  “Well, then, come in.”

Avery just laughed, she couldn’t help it.  She was happy, and in a state of shock that this was actually happening, and it just all spilled out into her laughter.  “Hi,” she said to Terran, not sure if she’d ever met him before now.  “What he said.”

Rob nodded.  “Well, that’s probably a good of a place as any to start?”  He shrugged.  “Alright, let’s head on down.”

“Yes, let’s,” she said, unable to keep the grin off her face now.  “We’re getting married,” she said, like it was just now dawning on her.  Her smile widened.

Rob laughed.  “That we are.”  He couldn’t help but laugh again.  “And I’m actually shaking.  I can’t believe how excited I am!”

She grinned at him.  “You can still back out, you know,” she joked.  “Run, run while you still can!”

He scoffed.  “Like that’s gonna happen,” he said.  He started jogging down the hall.  “Come on, I don’t want to waste anymore time.  I don’t care if it’s just a signature on a paper, I want it done.”

“Me too!” she said, laughing as she was pulled down the hall when he started jogging.  “Let’s do this thing.”

“Only you would get us lost on the way to get married,” she teased, laughing. She pulled on his hand and headed over to the big map on the wall just a bit further down.  “Oh, see, we’re fine.  We just didn’t go far enough.”  She pointed to a spot on the map, just a little further down from where there were now.  It said “Study” on it.  “I mean, I’m guessing that’s the place.”

Avery leaned her head on his shoulder as they walked.  “Yeah.  That’s how I know it’ll be okay, too,” she said.  “You do know where we’re going, right?” she asked then, laughing a bit.  “We’re not just wandering around aimlessly?”

He looked around, chewed on his bottom lip.  “I thought I did,” he muttered.
